A small group of men and women with criminal pasts accept an extremely dangerous mission to deep space in order to avoid the death penalty. They are to fly into a black hole, in the hope of harnessing its energy for Earth.
Dr. Dibs (Juliette Binoche), who was imprisoned for killing her children and husband, is on board to see to the health of the participants, but also to experiment on them. Monte (Robert Pattinson), who killed a girl over a dispute about a dog, and his daughter Willow are also on board. When things go wrong, Monte and Willow are the only two survivors and they must rely on each other as they hurtle toward the oblivion of the black hole.
